Hotel near Heathrow

In September, we have a overnight layover flying out of Heathrow. We arrive in London at 7 pm, and leave at 10:50 the next morning. We plan to stay at one of the nearby airport hotels. We would like to stay at one that could be a short cab or tube ride to a pub or restaurant. I doubt we will have enough time to go in to London, but I would at least like to go somewhere other than the hotel for a bite to eat. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Why not check out some places to stay in Windsor. You can get a bus, cab or car service to Windsor at reasonable prices. There are some excellent pubs and resturants there. It is about 15-20 min. from Heathrow buy car, I believe. Or take the Tube and stay in the Earls Court area of London. I've seen several good recommendations for that area on Trip Advisor.

The easiest options are staying in a hotel linked to LHR. Heathrow is large and if you're on a transatlantic flight out of the UK you'll probably be flying from T5 (if BA) or T4 (others). T5 has The Sofitel and T4 the Hilton. Both are expensive. (T4 and T5 are not very near to each other). The airport has some restaurants. I had a good meal in the Hilton itself recently. Staying in the airport is probably the most relaxing option ... Hope this helps

I've stayed at Heathrow Lodge a couple of times. There is a pub across the road from the lodge (it is large and looks nice), and another about 1/4 mile away (also nice-looking). When I stayed there, the Lodge provided free shuttle service to Heathrow beginning at 6 am.

Nope, you won't have time to get into London. It will likely be close to 9pm once you clear passport control, give or take some time based on how many flights arrive with yours. You should also plan to be at the airport around 8:30 the next morning. So, although it really isn't ideal, if it was me I'd just spring for the Sofitel or the Hilton. Even if you do tht, you need to figure out how to get from the hotel to the terminal for your morning departure. Ask when you check in. Heathrow is a big, sprawling mess. Getting to and from terminals is often not a non-trivial matter.

I echo j.c. Dont have time to get into London- or even Windsor. Even if you try, you wont be able to see anything. Stay at or in close vicinity of Heathrow Checking in at heathrow for a 10.30 flight could easily take most of the recommended 3 hours; so you will need to be there by 7.30 am

Yes I agree, I just want to stay close to Heathrow, but hope to find a pub/restaurant that's not in the hotel.......
Thanks to all!

Cynthia, you might look for a pub within short taxi distance from Heathrow. I don't know of any, but they might be there. Truth is, you might not have very much time there anyway, after clearing passport control, etc. I like to arrive in the early evening, and I plan on 60-90 minutes to get out of the airport. Heathrow is about 25 miles west of London, but it's pretty built up. Not a place for idyllic villages.

This will be a new experience for us because we typically stay at the Hilton at Heathrow. We are staying at a B&B in West Drayton. The owner of the B&B tells me it is about 15 minutes away from Heathrow and gave me a listing of restaurants/pubs in the area she says are very good. If this interests you, I could give you the names of these restaurants and even the B&B.

Cynthia - following is information. I will have to say that I have not experienced any of this - it will be a first for us. We will be staying at the Oakwood B&B in West Drayton. The owner recommended the following restaurants that she said are very close: Konkan - Indian food, reasonably priced and absolutely delicious; Chinese - Go Sing - Peking & Szechuan; The Griddle Diner - Fish & Chips at Blue Oyster Fish Bar; Swan Pub; DeBurgh Arms Pub - serves until 8 p.m. The owner tells me all of this is very close to Heathrow (we will have a rental car) - she indicates we could easily take a taxi from Heathrow should we choose to do so. We will be there in September.

Cynthia, one other thing about the B&B - I guess we will see for ourselves when we stay there - some reviews are good - others are not. All do talk, however, about how close it is to Heathrow, thus the restaurants would be too. My communication with the owner thus far has been very positive. I know some people have indicated she was rude, but I have not experienced that. She has been very accommodating to our time schedule.
