I am looking for a centrally located hotel in Oslo for 2 nights in early Sept. I need something inexpensive (?) to moderately priced. It can be small and spare as long as it is non-smoking, clean and safe. Would like WiFi and breakfast if possible. Pension, B&B are okay, not a youth hostel. Carolyn
The Thon Hotel chain has a "Budget" category of properties in Oslo that fall into the non-smoking, clean and safe with wifi and breakfast category. I have stayed at the Thon Astoria, a "Budget" category property that is very close to the Central S train station, making it convenient to the airport and the trains. Of course, the definition of "budget" is relative to Norway. Check Rick's Scandinavia guide for more alternatives.
Hotel Continental couldn't have a better location. It sits very close to the Radhus, the royal palace and right across the street from the National Theater rail station, giving easy access to the airport's Flytoget service. But it's only relatively moderately priced in the summer. Prices go up significantly in the fall, but I'm not sure when exactly the cut-off lies.
Rica Hotel Bygdøy Allé was pretty cheap and good.
