My family is taking the train from York to Manchester and flying out of Manchester early the following morning. I would like to find a hotel within walking distance of the main train station in Manchester (Picadilly?). We are travelling with our kids ages 9 and 12, and I'm finding most of the hotels in central Manchester do not allow kids or only have rooms for 2 people. Any suggestions?

Check out Accorhotels.com--they have several hotels at different price levels within walking distance to the station, and the website says "children stay free in the same room with parents."
The cheaper ones are pretty spartan, however, you're only sleeping there, and the rates are in US$.
One final question is on what day are you flying? Friday's are pretty hectic at the airport as there is a slew of budget airlines flying out of MAN each loaded with vacationers, so security is pretty hectic--and it is pretty tight.

Check the YHA too
A 4 bed , ensuite family room is £60.Near the great sci museumn too.
And I think the free bus runs back to Piccadily
