We're returning from York on Monday afternoon, flying out of Heathrow the next morning. Any recommendations on places close enough to make an easy AM departure?
Hi loisanne,
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Ariel (the HI that looks like a doughnut) in April. It was a weekend night, and I booked an advance rate on the hotel's web site, 47 pounds + VAT, and it included breakfast (nice buffet, though I did not like the taste of the baked beans).
http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow_hotels.htm tells a lot about various Heathrow hotels, including which ones you can use the free, local buses and skip the Hoppa.
Traveling solo, the 4 pounds for the Hoppa seemed reasonable and I did not figure out exactly where to get the free local bus. You pay each way for the Hoppa bus. The tip I will pass on is allow plenty of time for transit. Having to stop at the different terminals and various hotel locations, it was a good 50 minutes sitting time on the bus, each way.
Cheers.
If you want a cheap stay, and just need a bed and shower, the Easyhotel at Heathrow is only 25 GBP .. for the room, up to 2 people. Including VAT. Tiny cheap clean room with bed and ensuite tiny bathroom with shower. www.easyhotel.com
No i dont work for them, I just like using them abroad because they are cheap and extremely clean.
We stayed at Jurys Inn Heathrow and were very impressed. Nice rooms and bathrooms -- unbelieveably soundproof. You can see the planes fly over, but you never hear a thing! They even had good food. I highly recommend it.
We just left London the other day and also stayed at the Jury's Inn Heathrow. Nice room, breakfast buffet included in price, restuarant and bar in hotel. If you are driving, however, be sure you have directions; in 2 weeks this hotel was the only place we could not find in our GPS. It is truly a 2 minute walk from Hatton Cross tube stop.
