Hotel and transportation from London

Does anyone have the name or advice for transportation to and from the airport? We are arriving in heathrow and probably staying in London for three days, then heading on a cruise in southhampton. Next I was wondering should we stay in London or heathrow? We want to visit and only have three days. No idea where to start. Thank yoy

Hi Maria Went to London last Oct. and like you asked all kinds of questions on this helpful site. A lot of people suggested we take either the tube into London, or a bus.Knowing we would be arriving at 7am in the morning after an all night flight we chose a taxi. I arranged for "justairports" to pick us up and deliver us to the hotel in London. It was a god send as you are tired. It was $60 CDN.
Another suggestion would be to buy RS book on London. It is filled with excellent information on sites, hotels and restaurants. If you want some further information just post another question on this site or send me a Personal Message I would be glad to help.

Hello Maria. For transportation from Heathrow airport to London, I recommend : ride in a "Heathrow Connect" train. Tickets for that can easily and quickly be purchased at the Heathrow airport, in Terminal 3 or Terminal 1. The train ride is for about 25 minutes, to Paddington railway station in London. Ride in a London Underground train (the London "Tube") from Paddington station to a London Underground station that is near the hotel that you will be at. A hotel located near Notting Hill Gate "Tube" station is a good location. Tourists can ride in London Underground trains from Notting Hill Gate station to the popular places (Museum of London, Saint Paul's cathedral, Big Ben bell tower, etc.). Riding in a London Underground train from Heathrow airport to London can be satisfactory for going to some hotels in London. But riding in the Heathrow Connect train is more comfortable and pleasant. The Heathrow Connect train costs much less money than riding in a Taxi car from Heathrow airport to London, and the Heathrow Connect train will take you to London in less time than riding in a Taxi car.

Stay in London. Take the Heathrow Connect. Many b and b's and hotels near Paddington Station where the Heathrow Connect arrives and departs from. All depends on what you budget for your accommodations. Once you've gotten settled get directions to the nearest Underground stop. Pick up a pocket sized tube map to carry with you. On the large wall map look for the Westminster stop on the Victoria Line. I'm thinking if you are in the Paddington/Bayswater area u can take the District or Circle trains direct. Get off at the Westminster stop. Mind the Gap and follow signs to EXIT 1. Signs will say London Eye, Westminster Bridge, etc. walk up the few steps and before you will be the Thames. The London Eye is across the River, the bridge to your right. Turn right. Look up. Start exploring London from there. Enjoy your 3 day visit.

Please know there is a Heathrow Connect and a Heathrow Express. They are 2 different trains. The Express is the nonstop from Heathrow to Paddington. The Connect is a train that makes stops along the way.

Maria has already asked about getting to Southampton. I answered that yesterday, and the best route is indeed to go from Waterloo Station to Southampton Central, 1 hour 20 minutes, at least 3 trains per hour, taxi from outside the station to the ship.
