Hotel Accomodations Close To Gatwick

Hello: I am looking for suggestions regarding hotels that would be very close to Gatwick airport and yet allow myself and my wife easy access to downtown London. We will be in London from June 3 to June 7th. We leave out of Gatwick very early in the morning of June 7th. so we would like something close to Gatwick. We want to take in a few sights of London in the short time we are there. Any help will be most appreciated. Please accept my thanks in advance.

We stayed at Gable End Guesthouse in Horley. They provided us free transport to airport day of departure, only about 5 minutes away. Joseph and Mary were delightful and we could walk to town and train, I think they even drove us to the train we caught to London. I don't remember if they provide free transport from airport to their house but it is on the main bus route to airport so you could probably catch that. They were delightful. Also not more than 10 minute walk to fantastic very old restaurant I think called six bells. Look them up on "Smoothhound.com" then type in Horley and it will come up. They even provided breakfast very early, before their normal times. Good luck.

Horley has lots of B&Bs. I stay at this one: http://www.springwoodguesthouse.co.uk/ - the train station is walking distance, and there is free pick up/drop off at the airport. (You can take the train to the airport and get picked up, and then walk to Horley station to get back to London.) I also recommend dinner at the Old Six Bells pub your last night - walk through the churchyard.

Why not stay in central London until the night of the 6th, then spend that one night at the Yotel IN Gatwick Airport? Yes, IN the airport.

Marriott built a new Courtyard Hotel just 2 years ago that is within walking distance of the Gatwick terminal where you can also catch the train into London. Best available rate on June 6th is £90 for a king or 2 doubles. I've stayed there & would again.

You could also stay at the Gatwick Hilton, right in the airport...no idea what it would cost. Be aware that a round trip train ticket into London from Gatwick costs about $22 per person. What's nice about this ticket is that you get unlimited use of the tube and buses that same day. Tube tickets run about $6 per trip. The train usually takes 35-45 minutes,(each way) depending on how many stops it makes. It goes into Victoria Station only.

Since you are only in London for 4 nights you are probably reluctant to change hotels. However, you may want to consider staying your first 3 nights in central London as Roe suggested, and only your last night in or near Gatwick. For such a short visit, particularly if this is your first time, being in London would be much more convenient and less time consuming than traipsing in and out from Gatwick every day. I don't know your budget, but the areas around Trafalgar Square, Bloomsbury, Westminster, and Victoria Station are central to most areas that tourists like to visit. (London does not have a "downtown" the way most American cities do).
