we are 2 seniors both in our sixties, we will be in Dublin for 5 days in September. we checked university campus accommodation but they are all full, we have stayed in hostels often so that is no problem, but we do like them quiet, clean and fairly central. All suggestions for b&b's and hostels will be much appreciated.
The Fitzpatrick Guesthouse, just about four blocks from St. Stephen's Green and Grafton Street, in the city center, was a quiet little oasis for us, close to the action, but a residential neighborhood. Listed in RS Ireland. While they don't serve breakfast there and the rooms are simple, they are clean and reasonably priced. There is a Spar Market 1.5 blocks away that served as a great breakfast-jumping off point each morning, on the walk to the center. And a wonderful local pub, Foley's, right there on the same street.
I highly recommend the Globetrotters Hostel. It's centrally located, clean, and secure. It shares a front desk with a B&B and hostel guests get the same fabulous full Irish breakfast as the B&B guests.
I'd personally look into a hotel in Dublin City.
With the recession and a bit of overbuilding they are quite often cheaper per nite than a B&B and usually located quite a bit more central to the tourist sites
