Hi. We have a very good rate at Hilton Kensington (in Notting Hill area off of Holland Ave). Our other option is to stay at Park Plaza right at Victoria station. We are in London for 2 days and plan to see Tower, British Museum, Buckingham Palace and then catch train at Victoria Station. We would save $100+ for the 2 nights, plus get free breakfast and dinner at the Hilton
How long a tube ride is it from Holland PArk to the Tower? Is the walk OK(nice street, sidewalk, etc.) from Hilton to Holland Park station .5 miles away? How difficult will it be to take luggage (1 medium suitcase per person)? Can we take luggage on a bus? Can we take luggage on the tube? How much would a cab for 4 persons be to Victoria train station. It is 5 miles by cab.
Lastly, is it "worth it" to stay in this area to save $$, or should we just pay more to be closer into town. We do not plan to go back and forth to hotel--only out in AM and in for PM. thanks, Elaine
Does your suitcase have wheels? Is it carry-on size? If your answer to these questions is "yes," then you can move around fairly easily. I take my carry-on on the Tube. The Tube from Holland Park to the stop nearest the Tower shouldn't take more than 30 min., maybe less. Most people can walk half a mile in about 10 minutes. A cab for four persons might be a bargain. The size of your luggage may be problematic. Ask a more specific question if you still wonder about this trip. Break it down into several questions and you may get some good answers.
With one medium suitcase you'll be fine on the tube.
The walk from hotel to Holland Park is fine, both in terms of safety and sidewalk etc. Physically the closest tube is Shepherds Bush.
The local buses run a frequent 24x7 service that will get you to Oxford Street from in front of the hotel in about 15 minutes, the tube is of course a lot faster though you have to factor in the walk to the station.
The Hilton Kensington and Hilton Olympia are favourites of Priceline, if you bid on Kensington on Priceline there is a very good chance you'll end up in one of these.
The Tower of London is the other side of Central London from nearly all the main hotels, so you've got a short journey wherever you stay.
