Out of 7 days in Norway, if we wanted to spend a couple of days hiking (with young children so relatively easy, nothing too difficult) where should we go? Thank you.

You may not get any help with this particular query. Scandinavia doesn't get a lot of attention on this website, and even less mention for places and activities in Scandinavia not covered by Mr. Steves' books. You might want to try Tripadvisor. PS- Norway is one of my favorite countries, but I've never hiked there.

I have done some hiking in Norway, but nothing suitable for children. If you will be in Bergen, you could ride up the funicular (Floiban) and pick one of the ridgetop hikes there: http://www.floibanen.com/ You could also look on the website of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), which is mostly devoted to hut hiking, but there are some suggested dayhikes as well. Some of the huts are accessed by an easy walk and you could visit for lunch (did that once and they made us wonderful waffles). http://english.turistforeningen.no/ If I think of anything more specific I'll come back and post.

I haven't hiked in Norway, but did live in Scandinavia for a couple of years and have made a couple of trips to Norway in the summer. Many of the Scandinavian ski resorts have activities geared towards families on offer in the summer (e.g. biking, hiking, swimming, etc.). I'd suspect that hiking along some of the many cross-country paths would be an option. For example, Lillehammer might be a good choice. It is near the Maihaugen open air museum which I think would be great for kids. Another place might be a visit to the Briksdalsbreen glacier. It is a short walk to the glacier and it is kind of fun to see this in the summer. I'm sure there are other options for hiking in the Jostedalsbreen National Park, but don't know if they would be suitable for children. The tourist offices are often quite helpful. If you find an area that you are interested in, you might contact the local tourist office for suggestions.
