High Airfare to Britain

Hello from the Scottish Borders! I'm an American living over here, and am planning a wedding for next year. We've been looking at airfare for my family to travel to the UK and have discovered an interesting phenomenon. When we look at ticket prices from the UK to the US, the prices are HALF that of prices using the same carriers, same airports, same routes and probably the same planes as tickets coming from the US to the UK! Can anyone explain to me why this would be the case? It is making it very difficult for us to justify bringing family and friends over.

By the way, anyone wanting to see a beautiful part of Britain that is largely unknown, then the Borders is the place to be!

How many are coming? You might save a bunch by doing a Charter flight or talking to the airlines directly and asking about reduced fares for a large group of people.

There is a huge landing tax at Heathrow which jacks up the price considerably. The official line is they are trying to cut down Heathrow's carbon footprint. Oh, and just incidentialy they want to build a boatload of stuff....humm, methinks I smell a rat. My airline ticket actually broke down how much was tax...yikes. I think Japan has this same con game now as my son's ticket (he's over there as I post this) almost doubled in price when taxes and fees were added on. Have you priced tickets from the U.S. to Ireland and then a hop over to Edinburgh? And before anybody gets in a rant about global warming I drive a hybrid, religiously recycle, have a drip watering system, energy efficent appliances and solar panels on my roof so I'm doing what I can to go green. I just hate being lied to.
