I think it depends on how many Heritage sites you plan to visit. If you plan to visit just one or two sites, then purchasing a card may not be cost effective for you. If you are traveling with family, there is a family card. You might want to check: www.heritageireland.ie,[email protected]. to see if spending the money on a card would be beneficial for you. I looked over the listed Heritage sites and there are quite a few in southwestern Ireland, to include some being free admission. 2011 cost in Euros: Adult= 21.00, Senior Citizen= 16.00, Child or Student= 8.00, Family=55.00. We did not purchase a Heritage card on our last trip to Ireland, but we decided we should have!

It's hard for it not to be a good deal if you visit Newgrange and Knowth. After seeing these not to be missed sites, you've almost covered the cost of the OPW card. It was also wonderful to cut the line at the K-Goal in Dublin. Lines were never an issue anywhere else. Like all "discount" cards, it's good to do the math. The Paris and London cards are only worth getting if you are going to be a busy sightseer. In Paris it's nice to skip some lines but you really have to visit Versailles to make it worth getting.
