Hello, I'm going to be in Helsinki for some time in June, I was hoping to catch a train to St. Petersburg, Russia but I'm not fully up on the "red tape"/visa requirements. Looking to spend just a night and do a bit of siteseeing, returning to Helsinki. Thanks for your input!
Russia is still mired in lots of expensive red tape. This is a good site for visa info: http://www.waytorussia.net/RussianVisa/
Brad - that used only to apply to cruise ship passengers, who had to be with a tour guide. Looks like it may have been extended to train passengers but Greg should check before relying on it.
I appreciate all of the input, it's a bit of work for one night's stay, but if I'm up there why not? Thanks again.
I've heard of train tours to St. Pete's from Helsinki. Being on a tour precludes the need for a Russian visa. I think they are sold by Finnish travel agents to Finns. I chose another route so didn't find out all the details. Search Helsinki travel agents to find out more.
Thank you Sam!
