Help - Does anyone know if you can get from Helsinki to St Petersburg Russia for the day witout a Visa?? Would appreciate any info - details. Heard that this was possible on some sort of limited tourist visa that only allows limited access to city? Need to know if this could be done in ONE day? Thanks for any help and details. Jan

according to the Russian travel information site and the state department site anyone who entered Russia needs a visa.

Yes, you can, via ferry at least. In June we traveled from Helsinki to St. Petersburg on overnight ferry, stayed two nights in a hotel, and returned to Helsinki again via overnight ferry without a visa. There were people that went to St. Pete one night and returned the next night. All of this is under the 72 hour visa free rules. The ferry is the St. Peter Line.
