Great location to start from! And I agree with your plan (and the advice of many others) to start your first day with walking in order to overcome jet lag. Even a bit fatigued, you'll still be able to see much right from the start. You could easily do a south bank walk. The London Eye and (further) Shakespeare's Globe Theatre are possible options on that route. The Imperial War Museum (plan on at least 3 hrs.) is a different option to the south. Or you can cross the Thames on foot by bridge and go the Embankment route or instead just stay in the area of Westminster. You'll certainly get that "Wow, I'm in London" experience on this route. Pass by Parliament, Big Ben. The Cabinet War Rooms are not too far away, and neither are the Horse Guards. If you want to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, you have to schedule part of one of your days around that plan. If (like me) you just want to pass by and "see it" then you can usually incorporate it into the same day you visit the War Rooms and parliament. You have lots of options and a great amount of time to see London without stress. Enjoy! I recommend taking a large map, and marking all the sites you want to see with little pins or markers (I use a mini chess set's pawns). It helps to see all the sites literally standing out from the map when you're cutting up London into reasonable chunks that can be digested in a day or half day. Plan on one major site per half day, plus perhaps one minor site in the same area you might squeeze in.

I'll comment based on my assumption of you not having visited London before. You didn't mention the Tower of London, St Pauls, British Library and Churchill War Rooms. I'd certainly put any one of those higher than the London Duck Tour. You seem to have a very relaxed visit scheduled. In six days you could see a lot more. Personally, I'd suggest using Day one for more than strolling along the Thames. Try visiting the Globe. Have a pint at one of the historic pubs. Ride a double decker bus but not necessarily the bus tour.

Correct assumption in terms of my first trip. however, I thought that I would be able to see the Tower of London, St Pauls, British Library and Churchill War Rooms via my City Walk. Am I wrong. Let me know. Mark

Mark, I don't know the route of the "City Walk" (day 4) but I'm sure it can't possibly cover the Tower, St. Paul's, the British Library and the War Rooms in an afternoon. That's a huge span across the city. And even if you can walk past them all in a day, you wouldn't have time to enter them. If you're going to walk the Embankment on Day One anyway, you can probably arrange to see Parliament / Westminster the same day and (energy willing) the Churchill war rooms. Maybe even the London Eye if so inclined. That would free up part of day two for St. Paul's or the British Museum. The duck tour wouldn't be high on my list, but may be on yours. Many people would recommend you begin one day at the Tower of London (arrive prior to opening) to avoid the worst crowds. I would also suggest a max of one trip out of town (either Windsor OR Hampton Court), as this is your first visit and there is just so much to see in London proper, but again that is a matter of personal preference. What part of town is your hotel located? I might suggest an order of itinerary based on where you're starting each day.

Mark, I won't comment on your choice of locations. Every taste is different. There's an abundance of things to see and do in London, so you can't see everything in one visit. Everything looks find to me except Day 6, which seems a bit busy. The museum is a huge place. If you just want to absorb the vibe, etc., then you're in better shape time wise. The first floor lobby is especially striking, and whatever special exhibition is on offer will be located there. The rest of the museum is, well, pretty museum-y. Walking around Covent Garden, Soho, Regent Street, Hyde Park and Piccadilly Circus is a lot of walking and time to add on to a day in which you'll probably spend at least the morning at the museum. If it was me, I'd relegate Piccadilly Circus to the evening, when the neon signs are bright. Make it the last thing before you head back to the hotel. I'd drop one of the other three choices. Hyde Park is very nice and pleasant, and very big. I like it. There's a cafe there, too, if you can find a seat. Maybe the best thing to do that afternoon is to visit things in order of assumed interest. You can always leave early and move on to the next place.

Like others, I'd suggesst trying to incorporate the Tower of London. Depending on your arrival time, you could possibly move the Duck Tour to the first day and add it to day 2. Windsor can be a shortish full day or even a 1/2 day. I'd suggesst getting theatre tickets for that night if you are interested. And/ Or you could get them for after Hampton Court Palace. You could also move some things from day 6 to days 3 and/or 4 if you want. Covent Garden is one of my favorite places to wander around. I'd also suggest trying to spend a little time people watching in Leciester Square- you could pick up a "picnic" lunch and enjoy! You might find this article helpful:

Mark, we just returned from London and a stay at the Marriott County Hall which is a beautiful hotel. You are in a great location for a first time visit to London. Just be aware that this area is very BUSY!! The London Eye is just outside your balcony and the view of Big Ben across the Thames is spectacular. We actually prefer to stay in the Kensington area which is a little less touristy. I would also suggest a visit to The Tower of London. On a prior visit to London, we spent an entire day in Windsor and another day at Hampton Court both worthy of the time. For a six day visit, you have covered most of the "must" see attractions.
