Help on Hotels in London

Hi! I am considering a solo trip to London between xmas and new years and plan on sightseeing, shopping and a couple of day trips.. Bath, Oxford...

Through points I am given the option of the following hotels. Any advice would be really appreciated!!

The Russell hotel, The Kesignton Close, Crowne Plaza London St James, Melia White, Strand Palace

Ideally, the hotel is clean and somewhat upgraded, close to transit and social areas as I am hoping to meet new people!

Thanks!

I've always wanted to stay at that Grand Old Lady, the Russell Hotel, but could never afford it. (I did manage lunch there once.) It's perfectly located and meets all the requirements you have mentioned. As an added bonus, you can take the tube in from Heathrow, get off at Russell Square and you're there !

While I've never stayed there, I know people who have stayed at the Kensington Close. They didn't like it because the walls were paper thin.

Jennifer, I have stayed at the Russel. It is fine. But for convenience I like the Victoria Thistle. It is right on the train and tube line. It is right behind Buckingham Palace, and is walking distance of the Palace, Trifalga Square, Westminster Abbey, British Parliament, London Eye, Thames River, etc to name a few. Picadilly Circus, Soho, Regent Street, many things are not far and close tube rides. If you go on-line you can get discounts from the Thistle hotels.

I have to second the Thistle- though it is now called the The Grosovner. It is VERY convient and very nice. I have heard good things about the Russell, and if you have points, why not use them at the best!

I stayed at the Strand Palace a few years ago and it was fine then. It's in a great location.
