Help! Moreton-in-Marsh to Warwick or Stratford transportation & itinerary

Please help! I have never traveled overseas and am trying to plan our 30th wedding anniversary trip (6 days England, 7 days Ireland) using Rick Steves' book and web sites. We are renting a car in Ireland, but were trying to use bus/train/tube in England. I've worked out most of it, but the last 24 hours in England is driving me nuts. We finish the Mad Max Cotswold Discovery Tour (from Bath) in Moreton-in-Marsh between 1400-1500 on 21 May. We have to be at Birmingham Airport for a flight to Dublin leaving at 1925 on 22 May. We would like to do either Stratford or Warwick Castle (we'd love to see both) during that last 24 hours in England. I found a Johnson bus #22 leaving MIM at 1515, arriving Stratford at 1625, but nothing to Warwick. We might be able to squeeze in one sight in Stratford before closing. The Stratford Town Walk is at 1400 Friday, so immediately afterward, we could take a taxi to the Birmingham airport for about 45L.

Any suggestions? Stratford vs. Warwick? Any car rentals available in either Moreton-in-Marsh or Slaughter Pike to try to do both, or is that too much?

Sheila, you may want not to do too much before flying home. As this is your first europe trip try to leave flex time. Travel is exciting, so leave an extra hour or two to spend more time then expected in one place or another. Leave comfortable time to arrive for your flight home too. Like you, my first trip was planned down to the last second. I soon discovered that was not always essential, so relax a little over a coffee, talk with an unexpected new friend on the bus or train, and enjoy yourself to the utmost.

We really enjoyed Warwick Castle, even though it is a bit Disneyfied. At Stratford, the best part was walking along the river and seeing Shakespeare's grave in the church. Although the town's tourism is built around Shakespeare, there aren't many actual artifacts there from his life. If you need to choose, I would vote for Warwick. If you have time for another site, visit knearby Kenilworth Castle for a fascinating contrast with Warwick.

Larry,

Sounds like wise advice. I'll try to slow down a bit. :) I did find a train from Moreton-in-Marsh to Warwick Thursday afternoon, so I guess I now need to choose whether to go to Warwick and do Warwick Castle on Friday, or go to Stratford-upon-Avon and see the Bard's hometown.

Thanks for the input!

Thanks, Cynthia. If I were not trying to do the Stratford Town Walk and the birthplace and sights in Stratford, we could certainly spend the night, walk on the river and see the grave, and still leave in the morning for Warwick. I think my husband would really get a kick out of Warwick Castle. I did find a train that leaves there to Birmingham Airport.

I'm glad to know Warwick is still fun and worth doing, even if it is Disneyfied. Thanks.
