My husband and I are both interested in Tudor history. I have read various things about Heaver. Just wondering if anybody has been there and has any thoughts...
I believe you mean Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. It would make a nice day trip from London, you could take the train from Victoria Station to Edenbrdge Town Station then take a taxi the 3 miles to Hever Castle, or go to the next station Hever Station and walk (there's no taxi's) the mile to the castle. If you enjoy tudor history I think you would enjoy the castle.
Thank you very much! Yes I did mean Hever :)
We loved Hever! We had a rental car which made it easy to get there, but it's definitely worth it.
Have not been to Heaver Castle but you may want to check out Burghley House(Spring thru Fall) in Stamford, Lincolnshire. Their website details the beauty of the tudor castle and the extensive Elizabethan history.
I went to Hever Castle quite a few years ago and loved it. I really got a sense of what life was like in the 16th century. The gardens were also great. I was with friends who drove and we started at Chartwell, then a pub lunch and finished the day at Hever.
I went there a few years ago, and really enjoyed the visit. Do the house right when it opens, and spend time in the garden. There is so much history there, it's really interesting to get a sense of where it was in relation to London and Hampton court, and Henry VIII visiting....very interesting, I thought
