I looked at the tube map online and it looks like if I want to go to Russell square (well actually our hotel on Gower st.) the easiest thing is to take the picadilly circus line and stay on it all the way to the Russell Square tube stop. But I am not sure I am reading the tube map correctly. And do they call it Piccadilly line or do I have to look for signs to something else? Thanks so much. Very confused.
Hi Polly, you are correct. It is called the Piccadilly Line. Russell Square station will be the 22nd stop. Just watch the signs as you pull into the stations. Russell Square is the next one after Holborn.
Thanks, Robin!
Polly riding the tube is by far one of the easiest public transportation entities in the world. I often wonder why many of our yankee metros aren't as well marked. Don't fear it. In each car are large readable maps of the route the tube train is taking, with all the stops. As the previous poster noted after you've departed when you pull into the first station look out the window see the name of the station on the wall, look at the map above the seats in the car and count how many stops until the one you want. Once you depart train car follow the crowds to the exit. The Tube has essentially 13 lines, such as Bakerloo, Piccadilly, Circle, etc. On the ALL tube maps each line is a specific color. Bakerloo, dark brown, Piccadilly, deep blue, Circle, yellow for example. Most publications like TimeOut and the local papers will mention which station is closest to your destination. For example Parliment/Big Ben is Westminster. Look at the tube map and you'll see 3 lines go to Wesminster, Circle, Jubilee and District. If you were to go from the Russell Square station you'd take the Piccadilly line to Green Park station and then take the Jubilee Line to Westminster. Hope I've explained it well enough and not added to the confusion. In some stations you'll find some handy maps of the area which are great to use. Enjoy your trip and seriously the Tube is your friend.
You're good. There are lifts at Russell Square and not too many stairs, so it is manageable. You can just stay on.
