HEATHROW TO PRESTON

I am flying to Heathrow and would like to take the train to Preston. However there seems to be two connections. How complicated would it be to FIND the rail line in Heathrow and transfer at KingsCross. Travelling on my own but not much luggage. Also, has anyone had experience with Trainline.com?? Any comments would be most useful.

The cheapest way to get from Heathrow to Euston is to take the Tube: the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to Green Park and the Victoria Line from there to Euston. The trip takes just under an hour and the fare is £4.50.

Trains run once/hour from Euston to Preston. If you book well in advance at www.eastcoast.co.uk, you can get a discount fare as low as £10.00. However, those tickets are for a specific departure time and are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. If your plane is late and you miss your train, you're out the price of the ticket. If you simply want to take the first available train after you get to Euston, buy your ticket when you get there and you won't have to pay the Trainline's booking fee. The off-peak (after 09:30) anytime 2nd class fare is £69.20.

Allow at least three hours to get from Heathrow to Euston: up to one hour to clear immigration/passport control, one hour for the Tube rides, and one hour for walking to and from the stations at Heathrow and Euston and buying your ticket.

Allow at least four hours if you book a discount fare ticket so you have less of a chance of missing your train if your plane is late.

Thanks very much to both of you. Lots of good advice there which I will heed and lots of less expensive options. However, when I was trying to book the rail ticket it did come up with Kings Cross but I am familiar with the London tube so whichever it is I'll be fine. Thanks again.

Tim is correct, trains to Preston leave from Euston Station.
