Heathrow and the Olympics

I'm asking this question on behalf of my elderly neighbors. They are going on a cruise during the time when the Olympics will be held in London. They will fly into Heathrow and have a 4 hour layover before they board a flight there to Stockholm where the cruise starts. They are starting to be very worried about being at Heathrow during this time. My feeling is that since they are not going into London they will have no problems at Heathrow. Does anyone see this differently? Thanks.

There might be a delay in getting through passport control, but there often is, especially lately. I don't think they will encounter any problems other than that simply because the Olympics are going on.

I don't think there is anything to be concerned about. They don't have to go through immigration since they are travelling on to Stockholm. They will stay airside. When they go through airside security, it will only be other connecting passengers going through their checkpoint, so I wouldn't expect that queue to be much longer than normal.

Do they have to go to a different terminal than the one they have arrived in or is it the same one?

I don't know the answer to that one, Nigel. I'll have to find out. However, not sure if I can catch up with them today - we will leave our house before too long to head to the airport - TODAY WE FLY TO ENGLAND! It's been close to 90 degrees here and very sunny - don't think that's what we will be coming to, but that's OK. (By the way, Nigel, if they are changing terminals I assume you think they might be in larger crowds. They are older and get very stressed so I was trying to help them to prepare.) Thanks.

Happy Flying, Sharon. Its 17C (62.5F) in London as I write. No, I wasn't thinking of crowds, I was thinking of the time and effort to change terminals.
