Has anyone stayed at The Old Manor House near Stratford-upon-Avon?

I tried all of the suggestions that Rick has in his book for Stratford-upon-Avon and they didn't have any availability. The Old Manor House in Halford does have room for the four of us. I got the name from the Great Britain tour book by Eyewitness Travel.

I'm a little nervous committing to a place that I don't know anything about after I had a bad experience once before with the place I found online really not being acceptable.

We have had good experiences using smoothhound for B&B's. Pictures of the places are very important--I would never consider staying anywhere wo seeing pics. Recently someone commented on a place in the Stratford-on-Avon area called Monk's Barn--apparently they considered it a nice stay.

Thanks for the input. I contacted them and realized I probably have nothing to worry about because it is so expensive it must be nice! Now I'm thinking I can't stay there because of the expense. Am I being unrealistic? It is going to be 45 pounds per person per night. If I'm figuring right, that is $296 a night! (There are four of us.) When I lived in England as a kid the B&B's were the cheaper way to go. I never stay at something so expensive when I travel here. So what I'm wondering now, is that pretty much the way it is if you want something that has some charm and is clean and well kept?

If you go to Google and type in Stratford-on-Avon bed and breakfasts a whole long list will come up.
You have your list of places that have no space, so keep that at your side. You must understand that anywhere listed in Rick's books gets booked up very quickly. I would keep on trying.

The list I looked at included feedback from people on Trip ADvisor. Google is the key to finding just about everything you need to know about visiting most places!!!

Personally, I don't like Stratford and think it is terribly touristy. Most of the historic sites are a bit iffy historically anyway. It is not a quaint cute English village. I never understand why people have to visit so and so's birthplace anyway.!!! Having been to Beethoven's and Moart's (I believe they were their birthplaces..it has been so long, I don't remember anymore!!!)

I haven't visited anyone's birthplace in ages...much more interesting to get a feel of the area in which someone famous lived..if that is still possible due to modern development.

You could also look in neighboring areas for somewhere to stay probably cheaper but not near Warwick Castle as that is a big tourist draw as well.

If the Old Manoar HOuse is part of Wolseley Lodges, that is an organization of private homes that meet certain very high standards and are not inexpensive.

I think I would keep trying but always remember the adage you get what you pay for. And there are so many lovely villages in England in the south to s stay in!

I agree that Stratford-on-Avon is not the cute and charming town that comes to mind. It is much larger than I expected and busy. The only reason we stayed there one night was to attend a play. The Karen Brown Guidebooks have nice offerings but most are a bit pricey. Sometimes it is worth it to splurge. We showed up one Sunday afternoon at Lords of the Manor (Upper Slaughter) and asked if they had a reasonable offer and we got the room and dinner for a great deal. Husband loves to negotiate a bargain rate.
