Has anyone been to Blantyre Scotland?

HI R.S.people. I just found that my great-grandfather came to America in 1905 from Blantyre! I could use any info you might have on this town! My aunt found his home when she was there. Its funny but after talking to her I now must see his house and this town. Who knows, maybe find some family! thank you. Monte

Yes, I have been to Blantyre. David Livingstone was born there and you can visit his birthplace which is now a museum. Quarrier's Homes is also nearby. This is an "orphanage" and was a breakthrough when it started. It was built as a village with the children housed in homes with houseparents rather than the dormitories which were the usual facilities at the time. There is a Church and, I think, a few small stores. Quite an interesting place. It is a long time since I was there, but assume it is still much the same.
