Harry Potter

My niece and I are big Harry Potter fans and we will be in London in June. We plan to go to Kings Cross Station, but we are wondering about going to the Oxford sites. I checked with the Oxford TI and they don't have a Harry tour when we are there. Any suggestions?

No, they don't have a "Harry Tour" there, but you can always check out Christ Church college where the majority of the movie (i.e. scenes involving Hall, etc.) was filmed.

I also am a fan of Harry Potter but I am unable to recall any specific mention of Oxford in any HP novel. Could you be exact about which book and what references ? I'm sure you already know that Diagon Alley is off Oxford Street in London.

Oxford is the setting for Lyra Silvetongue in Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy.

Oxford has strong connections with CS Lewis and the Chronicles of Narnia.

Also JRR Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings.

If you PM me I can provide interesting walks for any of those subjects.

On the way from London to Oxford you will pass Leavesden Studios where the Harry Potter films are made. Right now outside you can see the back of a huge set.

Take a walking tour of Oxford including Christ Church College, New College and Oxford University, that has the grand staircase, and all these places have had scenes filmed there and the great hall is loosely based on the University hall.

Check with British Tours:

I believe they have a free map you can request of all the Harry Potter filming locations.

And don't forget to see the lawn in front of the Bodlean Library (circular building) where Malfoy (sp?) was turned into a ferret!
