Half day in Copenhagen

Thanks to a long layover, my husband and I will have a whole morning in Copenhagen during our vacation next year. I've never been and don't know much about the city, so realizing we probably have time for just one thing (or two short things) to do, what should we visit to get a real feel for the city? FWIW, we'll actually get into the city at 10 p.m. the night before, and our flight leaves around 3:30 p.m. so I figure we would need to leave for the airport around 12:30, 1 p.m., depending on how long it takes to get from wherever we are to the airport. Also, does anyone know if there's a place we could store our luggage at the airport? I would really prefer just putting a change of clothes in a backpack so we could leave everything else at the airport and not have to drag it into the city with us.

When we were there several years ago, we stored our luggage at the Copenhagen train station. That, of course, means you drag your things into the city. I am not familiar with a place to store luggage at the airport. Probably other people are. Copenhagen is just a fun city to walk - the Stroget, Nyhaven, the Jewish resistence museum, a wonderful history museum, art museums, Tivoli - trying Danish food - many places of interest. You can choose something that matches your interests and have a great morning.

If you will mainly just be there in the morning, probably the best place to go to get a feel for the city is the Nyhavn Canal area. Spend the night at a hotel near the airport ..... most hotels will let you leave your luggage with them for a few hours while you check out the city. If you end up with a flight that gives you layover time in the afternoon or evening, then I'd recommend going to Tivoli Gardens (opens at 11 am). It's a magical place to visit.

Tim - thanks for the shout-out for Tivoli! I have found lots of "meh" opinions about Tivoli on this board, and I too think it is magical! Nyhavn is a great place to hang out - great for brunch and people watching. The city is, as another poster has noted, great for walking. The Stroget is a super easy place to stroll and shop and eat and people watch. And pretty much everything is within walking distance - Nyhavn, City Hall square, Christianborg Castle, the Jewish Museum, Ørstedsparken, Rosenborg, the boatnical gardens, the Kastellet... it's pretty easy, and VERY awesome. Have a great time!

If you are getting in the night before why not take the train in and get a hotel that evening. That way you could leave your things at your hotel and just hop on the train and go directly to the airport? As has been stated it is a great city to just walk around and enjoy the ambience. If I only had a half day not sure I would spend it at Tivoli, but there is just me.
