Haircuts in London

I'm looking to updo my current style of haircut and would like to get a new cut in London. I'm not into the latest trend. I want a good cut suited to my maturity ( a very young 51 years old) and lifestyle (carefree, not a lot of maintenance). I don't want it too short (I know that's relative). I'm just looking for suggestions of salons or stylists that don't charge a fortune (again, relative) but consistently put out good work. Should I just observe women and if I like their style ask where they got it done?Any advise would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Kari

I've gotten good cuts at the Trevor Sorbie Salon near Covent Garden (but they are not cheap ... you can check prices on their website). There are many high end salons in London and many are quite pricey. One of my colleagues used to swear by Vidal Sassoon's hair academy. Evidently a student will cut your hair under the watchful eye of an instructor. I've never tried this myself and don't know where they are located.

Try searching or posting your question on the tripadvisor London Forum; I've seen questions about stylists posted and answered by locals there in the past.

Oh boy did this post bring back some memories! Lawrence University has a study program in London since the early 70's or late 60's. In the 70's you always knew if one of the girls (oh, we would have so determinably said women then) had been in London the previous term as they all seemed to come back with a new chic cut. Then came the challenge of maintaining that London do in Appleton, Wisconsin! Pam

Just like any other specialty need. Ask your hotel concierge where to go. He probably won't know; ask him who to ask about it. There will be a female employe of the hotel who can help you.

I'm going to be staying at the London Central YHA but I'm sure the same advice would apply. I was hoping someone had personal experience with a salon like the poster about Trevor Sorbie. Unfortunately, I don't have an additional 200 BPs to get it cut there. I'm a hairstylist myself so it shouldn't be too difficult to maintain if I ask them for an "easy to maintain" cut. Thank you so much for all the advice.
