We are planning a trip to the middle section of Hadrian's Wall sometime this year and are looking for the perfect time (decent weather yet lack of crowds). Am wondering if anyone has an opinion as to the perfect time to hike the Wall.
I had good weather last year during the last week of August. High 50s to mid 60s. Some rain but not a lot. As for crowds, I think it depends where you want to go. We stayed in Haltwhistle and walked west one day to the Roman Army Museum. Saw about 10 people max. The next day we did the more well-traveled Once Brewed-Housteads-Vindolanda loop. Saw many more people, but we didn't have to wait in line to get into Houseteads or anything. Of course we were there Thursday and Friday, so it might be more crowded on the weekends.
