Guiness Storehouse

I really want to go up to the Gravity Bar while I am in Dublin, but am not that interested in taking the tour.

Do you HAVE to pay for the tour to be able to go up to the Gravity Bar? Or can you just go up and buy a Guiness?

You have to pay for the tour. you do not have to do the tour as it is self guided. It you do decide to buy a ticket it is less expensive if you do so on line and you can go directly inside instead of having to wait in line to buy a ticket.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the cost. Dublin isn't that spectacular to view, and you can get Guinness anywhere.

I would argue that on a clear day, Dublin actually is quite scenic from the air, with the Irish Sea and Howth on one side, and the Wicklow mountains on the other. To me, the view makes a visit to the Storehouse just barely worth the price of admission. Without this, it would just be paying to subject yourself to one long Guiness advert.

If it is a clear day the view is nice but I don't think worth the 14 Euro or what ever the price is now. Oh yes, Guinness is spelled with two n's.

We considered the Gravity Bar the least enjoyable part of the Storehouse. When we visited last June it was so crowded that we could hardly make our way to the windows to take in the view.

I seem to be in the minority, but I really enjoyed the storehouse tour and Gravity Bar. I found the history interesting and thought it was kind of neat to see how the advertising has evolved. I mean, it's not like going through the national museum, but it was fun. I was there in March when I went a couple years ago so crowds weren't an issue, but I thought the view from the Gravity Bar was pretty spectacular.

Jill, I also enjoyed the tour of the Guinness Storehouse and the Gravity Bar. It was hot and crowded in the Bar, but I didn't have any trouble getting to the window for a couple of photos. The construction of the Bar is somewhat like a Greenhouse, so I can understand why it was a bit warm. The staff were great, and it was interesting watching the group in the Bar and visiting with travellers from all over. I decided not to buy anything in the Gift Shop, as I didn't have much room in my Backpack to bring anything back (especially anything "breakable" like a Beer Glass!).

If you decide to try the tour, I would strongly recommend that you go early, as the queue just to get in the door sometimes extends right around the corner. I went first thing in the morning on a rainy day, and only had a short wait to buy a ticket and start the tour.

Happy travels!

Glad to see you're traveling to Ireland...have a pint for me. In regards to the Storehouse, it was a real shrine to Guinness...having said that it was a bit like Disneyland. If you'd like a really great alcohol related tour I would suggest the Jameson distillery. The price is much better, the whole place is a great deal more grounded, and if you take part in the shot game, you have a chance to get an honorary tester. (at least it was that way when I was there) In otherwords, all you're missing is the view.
For me it had a much more Irish feel then the Guinness storehouse ever did.
Whatever you choose to do, have a grand adventure!
