Hello. My parents will be arriving at the Amsterdam Cruise Ship Terminal and are interested in taking a guided day tour of the city. They are in their 70's and are not looking to do a lot of walking as my father has recently undergone knee replacement surgery, some walking in ok though. Any suggestions on tours, operators, itineraries, etc. is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cathy, You might get more responses by posting this question under the To the West section. Some of the folk with experience in the Netherlands may not look here.
Myself, I haven't made it to Amsterdam yet. Good luck.
There are several canal boat tours that last about an hour and are reasonable and fun
Having just come from Amsterdam, I too would recommend a canal boat tour. We didn't take one, but we had a canal view room at our B&B and saw the tour boats go by about one every 10 minutes, and usually fairly full too. They also do evening boat tours, which might be nice too. And we saw one very regal looking dinner boat, with white table cloths and many people enjoying themselves. I think the best way to see Amsterdam on a tour is by canal boat.
It is well worth it, that's what I have to say. You can now get a several guided tour from the airport if you have a long layover. I wasn't aware of the a year ago when I was there, but hired a cab to take me into Amsterdam and show me around.
