I'm choosing between taking the train to Bristol Airport (via bus transfer at Temple Meads) or taking the Greyhound from the Cardiff bus station to the airport. It looks like it will take about 35 minutes longer but save us (3 traveling) GBP 36. Has anyone had any experience with this route? Any reason to be concerned about on-time dependability? Thanks in advance for your help.
I've never taken the bus, but driven the roads often enough. Barring some major, major damage (like the Severn Bridge collapsing) traffic sure isn't going to be a problem.
You don't say at what time you intend to do the journey. The bus from Temple Meads has to negotiate the centre and south of Bristol and can be very slow at peak times; on one occasion it took me over twice the booked time. Still you might have similar problems getting out of Cardiff. The Severn Bridges do occasionally close for high winds, but that is rare.
Thanks for your thoughts. We are trying to get to the Bristol airport for a 12:10 flight on Thursday, June 27th. There is a bus that departs the Cardiff bus station at 8:15 with scheduled arrival at the airport at 10:20 and several train/bus combinations (leave Cardiff at 8:30 / arrive at Bristol airport at 9:58 or leave at 9:00 and arrive at 10:27).
