We will be visiting England in the Lake District this June and have a lot planned. Our only open day is Sunday when most places seem to be closed. Does anyone have great ideas for Sundays in England?
Where will you be on the Saturday before and where do you need to be on Monday after? If you are basing in London, then Kew Gardens is wonderful. Most tourist attractions are open on Sunday- and many shops are too.
Can't imagine what would be closed in the Lake District on a Sunday. Most things visitor orientated will have longer opening opening hours or higher frequencies on a Sunday though they might be slower getting going on a Sunday.
Larger retail outlets like Supermarkets may have restricted opening hours to about 6 hours on a Sunday and banks will be closed but thats about it.
Tourist attractions will usually be open on Sundays, it's smaller shops that usually aren't.
I was in the Lake District on a Sunday in 2006 and found many places are open. Suggetions in case things are not open: boot sales, hiking, picnic, etc. Lots of the locals sunbathe along the lakes. It is a lovely region to just journey around the area. Take your time and enjoy.
I agree with the people who have said most places will be open, maybe just not the smaller independent shops.
Otherwise, the idea of car-boot sales is a good one, or just taking a walk in this gorgeous area and finding a nice pub!
You really ought to try a Sunday lunch! Most places won't be closed on a Sunday, although you should check each one idividually. Walking is what the Lake District was made for...
There used to be no theatre on Sunday now there are at least 8 plays on west end usually afternoon shows . Speakers corner also a good bet .I ask for ceramony of the key tickets for sunday .
