Great Britain: Itenerary Changes

Hi all, So initially we (3 of my friends) and myself had decided to visit UK for 8 days(excluding travel to and fro) where we'd spend approx 5 days in London and remaining in Cotswolds. Well we've changed those plans and would like to spend 5 days in London and 3 days in Scotland (Edinburgh and perhaps a Highland day tour). I have been looking at getting the bargain berths for the Caledonian sleeper trains from London Euston to Edinburgh Waverly station. My question is for those of you who have managed to get those bargain fares: (1) Is there a tip/trick to ensure you get it? Our days will be Monday, April 30th and coming back on Wednesday, May 3rd. I've already registered on the scotrail.co.uk site and have a reminder on my calendar to start checking fares around Feb 1st. (2) What is the next best fare after bargain fares?

The standard fare is 119 GBP. I played around with a few dates and found cheaper fares ranging from 60 to 84 GBP. I believe those are Bargain Berth fares, but obviously not the lowest one (19 GBP). The allotted number of berths for that fare must sell out very fast.

aRies, Another option would be to travel during the daytime, as it's a very pleasant trip with some great scenery. One possibility is East Coast Rail from London to Edinburgh. The trip is about 4.5 hours, and a departure at 08:00 would get you to Edinburgh by ~12:30. I checked briefly and found some fares listed for £39 for travel in January (booking early would be a good idea). You may get some good information by having a look at This Excellent Website. Cheers!
