I attended the "Salute to the 40's" at the Historic Dockyard Chatham last year, and it was really a lot of fun. I would even go again. It was like being in a time machine. Lots of music, singalongs, canteens, and WWII outfits (about 60-70% of those there are in period costume), ships you can board, 'bomb' presentations (yes, they even explode some), and old vehicle parade...sort of an outdoor museum on steriods. This year, it's on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September , and an easy hour-ish train ride out of London and then bus or walk (3/4 mile or so) to the Dockyards.
I just LOVED it! And I'd never heard of the Dockyard (nor did I think it would be that interesting...but it was).
