Besides excellent food in a charming setting there is a popular bar serving a wide choice of cocktails. Using the Katarina Lift to get there. The lift has two cages and takes you 38 meters up to the old streets of Mosebacke. You will have a spectacular view over Old Town and the waterfront. I went in 2005 and spent 3 or 4 days in Stockholm. I stayed at the Queen's Hotel, a two-star recommended by Rick that's walkable from the train station. It's on a street with many small shops and cafes - there was one across the street that I would relax in while drinking tea and eating pastry.

There's also a decent Italian restaurant near one of the main tourist drags where I ate almost every night. It was never crowded, so I could chill with some red wine and pasta after a hard day's touring.

The best part about eating there was the art gallery across the street. I checked it out on a whim and ended up buying my favorite travel souvenier - a very small, framed painting. It was of the view from the street as if one were standing between the restaurant and the gallery looking up the hill, at the end of which was a landmark tower. I keep it on my desk at work to look at when I need a lift.
