My husband, 20 year old son and I will be traveling to Ireland for 10 days this August. We arrive by plane from US on Aug. 13 and will be spending our first 2 nights in Dublin. Plan to pick up car at airport on morning of Aug. 15. Since we have a full day of sightseeing (Bru na Boine, Monasterboice, and Clonmacnoise) as we head to Galway on the 15th, we are looking for recommendations for a hotel or B&B close to the bus stop to airport and yet not far from middle of town. Can't afford to spend a bundle, but looking for clean and quaint. Any recommendations please? Thanks in advance for your help and responses!
Deb - Our family stayed at Waterloo Lodge(waterloolodge.com) this past June. It met our needs quite well.
Thanks Joel! We'll take a look at the Waterloo.
Hi Deb, If you like the area where the Waterloo Lodge is located, you could also check the Schoolhouse Hotel. Beautiful and peaceful. They are both a little bit away from the city sights, but the neighborhood is much quieter, and it's maybe a 10-minute walk to Trinity College and St. Stephen's Green. I wouldn't worry too much about finding someplace near the airport bus stop. With 3 of you, a taxi is only a tiny bit more and much more convenient. You won't be a slave to the bus route, plus you won't have to lug your bags down the street. When you think about it, you're most likely spending a few thousand dollars on your trip. What's $10 more to make your trip less stressful? Enjoy!
Thanks everyone! It seems that both Waterloo and Schoolhouse are booked during our time in Dublin. Will keep looking - appreciate your suggestions!
We are going to Dublin in Sept. and didn't think I was going to have a hard time finding a B&B. But since we'll be there on the weekend, everyplace I called was filled. I did find, via Trip Advisor, a wonderful B&B with remarkable reviews. Try "Colette Carter B&B" located not far from the center of town. She is located around the corner from the Luas green line that will zip you right to the center of town. We're leaving our car at the B&B while we visit Dublin and then leaving for the airport in the morning. She's close to the highway also. Anyway, read her reviews and see if she works for you too.
We stayed at The Davenport Hotel, Merrion Street in Dublin. It is close to Trinity, Grafton Street, and other places we wanted to see while in Dublin. It is more expensive than a B&B. We were able to get a special rate by staying more than 1 night using AAA rates, but we made the reservation ourselves. The hotel is owned by the O'Callaghan hotels so if this hotel is full you could check their other Dublin hotels some located in the same area. We did use bus travel in Dublin and there is a bus stop near by but I can't remember if it is the airport bus stop. We ended up taking a taxi to the airport for a very early flight. The following is their website. http://www.ocallaghanhotels.com

I found a helpful and easy to navigate web-site for all counties in all of Ireland. BandBIreland.com. You may want to try it.
We booked at Roxford Lodge in September. It's supposed to be very close to a bus stop and I think 20 minutes walk from downtown. Booked it thru expedia as I found an "economy room" that was considerably less $$ than on their website. You may want to try. The hotel is recommended by Rick Steves.
