Going to Ireland in May

I have five days in Ireland. Land in Dublin stay two days and I want to go south . What can I do in three days which would include returning to Dublin on the third day. Would Ibe able to go to Killarney and the ring of kerry? Or go south along the coast by Waterford ? Thanks

John, I'd suggest heading for the southwest, County Kerry, rather than Waterford. You could drive to the southwest one day (stopping along the way to visit, for example, Glendalough, Kilkenny, west Cork, or Cashel... depending on your route), spend a day driving the Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula, and visit Killarney National Park early the next morning and then return to Dublin. The Irish auto assn has a web site where you can calculate driving times, although you may want to assume it will take you a little longer than they say.

John,
You're not giving yourself much time. I would suggest staying in Kilkenny. You could visit Powerscourt Gardens and Glendalough on the way there. You can daytrip out of Kilkenny and visit the Rock of Cashel and Cahir castle on one day. Visit Waterford city on the next day. Then its a quick trip up the N9 & N7 back to Dublin.
