Going from Bangor Wales to Carlisle England - stop in Chester?

I'm on to the last leg of my trip that I have to book... going from Bangor in Wales to Carlisle in England. I've got the whole day set aside for travel, and can't check in at Carlisle until at least 5pm.

Is it worth it to stop in Chester? I'm heading to Carlisle to do walks along Hadrian's Wall.

Thank you in advance!

I think Chester is a nice little town. Quite a bit of the old medieval wall is still standing and it's fun to walk on. There are some interesting sights, but it seems like a real town where real people live, rather than a tourist attraction. I think it would make a nice stop.

Thanks, I booked my tickets so that I have a few hours to have a browse! If nothing else, it'll break up the longer trip.

I've been to Chester once and really liked it. It has a lot of character and, when we were there, they had very nice shops. We took the river cruise, went through the old church, walked the wall. I understand they have a nice museum, but we didn't make it there.

Howdy from Texas. We were in Chester back in 2001 and spent about 3 days there. It is really nice city with an old medieval wall around it. They have horse racing and you can watch the races from on top of the wall. They have a great Cathedral where you can hear Evensong if you wish. They have a wonderful shopping district where we had some of the best fish and chips we had on our trip there. Very friendly people too, I recall.
