We are going to Ireland Nov 18-Dec 5 and are trying to decide whether to see Glendalough or Clonmacnoise. Has anyone seen both and could you tell me which was the best. I am prone to see Clonmacnoise because it looks fascinating and we are trying to not do the whole country in two weeks but limit our places and stay at least two nights in each area. Thanks.
Hi Cindy,
We went to both Glendalough and Clonmacnoise during our Ireland trip last year.
We really enjoyed both, but if you don't have time to both and you're leaning toward Clonmacnoise, I think that will be fine. Clonmacnoise is really fascinating, and you can spend quite a bit of time there. Part of the reason we liked Glendalough is that the scenery and drive in the Wicklow Mountains was so beautiful and we hiked some of the trails the afternoon we were there. But if you're not going to do all that, then Clonmacnoise would work well for you.
I hope that helps!
I agree with Nicole. We have been to both sites twice and the best choice is both. If you are interested in High Crosses, then definitely Clonmacnoise. Both locations have their beauty. Clonmacnoise is on the River Shannon and Glendalough is in the Wicklow Mountains. Your choice will probably come down to which one will be closest to where you will be for most of your travels.
