Glendalough

Does anyone have any recommendations for staying the night or Glendalough or should we visit and go on ( traveling FROM Dublin) to stay in another nearby location?

When I visited Glendalough I went on to Arklow for the night after stopping in Avoca to see the woollen mills.

I also recommend staying in Rathdrum and at Stirabout Lane B&B. It was our favorite B&B during our 10-day trip. Rathdrum is a small town, but had some charming pubs and we had a great pub dinner at a place down the block from the B&B. We toured around Glendalough and went hiking there and then made our way to Rathdrum. It all worked out very well.

I was just there, and did Glendalough and Avoca in a day. If I went back, I'd be tempted to stay somewhere in or close to Avoca, but there are a lot of lovely little places in between the two. It just depends on your time, and where you want to be the next day.
