Does anyone have a favorite ghost walk in Edinburgh? I see that Witchery Tours, Mercat Tours and Auld Reckie Tours all offer ghost walks. Is one tour better than another? Is it necessary to book reservations before leaving the US or can we get tickets once we are in Edinburgh? Thanks for any suggestions.

There are probably a lot more than three groups offering ghost walks in Edinburgh. They all seem to meet in Mercat Square at dusk. I arrived a little late and joined a group as it was leaving the square. Within a few minutes I realized it was geared for small children so I dropped out. Sadly I don't recall the name of the tour I was looking for or the one I ended up on.

http://www.mercattours.com is the biggest operator of Ghost tours. They offer several different Ghost tours each with slightly different theme. You can easily do two different tours in one night. They are all excellent. All originate from Mercat Cross. I easily purchased tickets on the evening of the tours right before they began. The other companies have different starting points along the Royal Mile.

I did the Mercat Tour of underground Edinburgh. It was a bit corny, but it was really interesting to get into the vaults and see them. Pam
