Does anyone have an experience same day accomodations from the tourist center/train station in Bath and London? We'll be in Bath for 2 nites starting Thursday and London 2 nites starting Monday in mid June. About 8 years ago, got a great deal for a 5 star hotel in London, but there was nothing available in Dover when we arrived. They directed us to a street with B&B's and we easily got a good deal. Not seeing a lot of great advance deals on line. We'll have a car in Bath, so aren't limited to public transportation.
I did this at Paddington Station once. They booked me a place for 75 pounds per night, so it was not really cheap, but apparently below the hotel's regular price. The hotel was the Grange Strathmore near Gloucester Road tube station. I have to admit that it was the nicest place that I have stayed in London. One good thing about using the booking agency at Paddington station is that it did save having to walk around with my luggage to look for a place, so I do not regret using it.
Thanks Ted. I remember my stay wasn't exactly cheap, but really, really nice. I thought we reserved at Victoria Station. Does anyone know if they have agencies at both?
I am sure that there must be an agency at Victoria. I used Paddington that time because I had just got off the train from Oxford.
Carolyn, Since you know where you will be on certain days, why not book something before you go on your trip so you won't have to spend your "sightseeing" time looking for a place to stay. We stayed at Woodville B&B (Anne) in Bath and Falcon Hotel, two blocks from Paddington Train Station in London.
I'd recommend both of them.
Woodville B&B in Bath is about a 10/15 minute walk from the middle part of Bath and had a parking spot. Last June Anne's rates were 50 gbp.
Rick Steves' advice is not to arrive in London without reserved accommodations.
