Getting from Heathrow to Euston/St Pancras station

I am flying in to Heathrow on Thursday with my family of 6. We need to get from Heathrow to Euston station and thought the tube looked easiest until I started reading posts and now I'm unsure if I should use Express, Connect, Tube,etc... Any suggestions on easiest and/or cheapest route? Thanks

The tube is the cheapest and it is really not difficult. However, everyone needs to be able to walk and carry their own bags.

With 6 people, I don't think the Express or Connect would be worth it. You would have to change at Paddington to a tube or two taxis. Instead, if you are looking for something easier, I'd suggest that you look into a car service. I cannot recommend a specific service but I'm sure that you can find suggestions on tripadvisor.com

Ed, are you looking for easier or cheapest?

Easiest is a cab. Cheapest is the tube.

From Heathrow, you'll have no problem finding a seat on the tube, but as you get closer to the St Pancras station, it becomes more crowded.

The travel time is about an hour from the airport to St. Pancras.

Just to chime in ...

It depends on how much you want to drag your suitcases up and down stairs, how much time you have and if you absolutely need to do this as cheaply as possible.

It's rather cheap and somewhat straightforward to take the Piccadilly Line all the way from Heathrow to Kings Cross. Then - and here's the tricky part - lug your suitcases around the tunnels and up/down stairs to the Victoria Line and up some escalators into Euston. It will take over an hour, but it's cheap - just bring some reading material.

But since this is family, I take it you'll be paying for everything. That's about £6 per person).

At those rates, why not just get a car? The very easy way would be to arrange for a taxi to take you from Heathrow to Euston - should be £55 or so. Pre-book. No lugging stuff around town and no interminable ride on the Tube. Save exploring the London Underground for another day when you're not pressed for time or exhausted from a long-haul flight.

You could use a shuttle serviced like Dot2Dot

According to their website the fare for a family of 6 with six bags from Heathrow to St. Pancras is 103 GBP (plus tip.)

That's door to door service. A cab would be less but I don't think one cab could take six people and six pieces of luggage.

(I've never taken Dot2Dot but I've heard good things.)

How old are the people in your family? How much luggage? How heavy? Can each person handle their own?

The fare on the Tube is 4 GBP. Take the Piccadilly line to Green Park, transfer to the Victoria line, and take it to Euston.

I haven't used it myself, but for a car service many people recommend Just Airports. Since their MPVs (minivans) hold a maximum of five passengers, you would need two estates (station wagons). Euston is in postal code NW1. The discount cash fare for an estate to anywhere in NW1 is 36 GBP, so your total cost would be 72 GBP.

You know, I just realised that the headline of this thread doesn't (quite) make sense.

There are three major stations on the Euston Road:

Euston and then a bit farther along past the British Library there is the magnificent edifice of the restored St Pancras beside the somewhat more modest train shed of Kings Cross.

Kings Cross and St Pancras stations share the same tube stop.

So one could go all the way to Kings Cross/St Pancras on the Piccadilly Line quite easily. Takes forever, but it's cheap and straightforward.

If you have a load of luggage, then popping over to Euston Station isn't particularly fun. One could either drag everything up to the street and take a bus or taxi - or take the tube. It's just a lot of dragging heavy cases up and down stairs. One could also walk, but it's a bit of a nasty, lengthy slog with cases on the Euston Road.

But there is a bus that goes along Euston Road.

Actually the answer to your inquiry has to do with the lowest common denominator - who in your group of six will have the most difficulty with bags, walking, etc.

Less bags and mobility equals the Tube or the Express. Anyone for which you would have to carry bags, or otherwise can't handle the crowds and the bustle that come with those cheaper alternatives means hiring a car or taking a more expensive taxi.

Hi All, still working out the tube map, but why can't we just take the picadilly line all the way to Kings Cross. From reading the map I should be able to exit kings Cross and be near Grays Inn Rd? Help anyone please?

Steve, that's exactly what I do. I take the Piccadilly Tube line from Heathrow to KingsX/St Pancras. You will have to handle your own luggage whichever service you use unless you take a shuttle or cab. Just follow the Underground signs in the airport.
