getting from Heathrow to British Library

I will be flying into Heathrow on a Saturday and need to get to Sandwich St., between the British Library and the British Museum. I am deciding between taking the National Express bus to Victoria (4 pounds a person; there will be 3 adults) and then a taxi to the apartment, or a taxi from the airport to the aparment. Can anyone estimate the taxi fare from Victoria to the area where my apartment is? Does anyone recommend a particular taxi? Many thanks. Kate

Is there a reason you are not considering the tube? Only the Piccadilly line goes from Heathrow Airport straight to Russell Square which is only a few streets away from Sandwich Street according to the map. Your way seems a lot more complicated way of doing it.

I would personally only use the official black cabs, although I cannot remember what the pricing is.

Hi Kate,

Sandwich street is closer to the British Library than the British Museum and the closest tube would be Kings Cross/St. Pancras which can be reached from Heathrow on the Picadilly line and should only be a couple of pounds more. Also, think about purchasing either an Oyster card or travel card if you're going to be in London for a few days and will be using the tube or the buses on a daily basis.

Depending on the number of bags you're carrying you could take the Picadilly line straight from Heathrow to Kings Cross/St. Pancras and either get a cab to Sandwich or make the walk.

I was in London just last week and used Olypmic Cars on several occasions and they were cheaper than the black cabs. We traveled from Knightsbridge to Heathrow for 4 people, 8 bags plus packbacks and the cost was 52.00BPS, 16.00 less than the cost of a black cab.
Olympic's number is 011 44 0208 900 1666 and speak to Tony. Just ask and they will quote you a price in advance and they honored that price each of the 6 times we used them.

However, if you're traveling from Kings Cross or St. Pancras (those stations sit side by side) then go to the taxi stand and get a black cab from to your flat on Sandwich Street. The cabs are regulated so you don't need to worry about paying any "hidden" costs.

Have a great trip!
