Hi, I am going to London for the first time and I decided to stay in a hostel since I am traveling alone. Im staying at the Generator in Bloomsbury, near Russell Square. I've read numerous reviews on other sites regarding this hostel but would love to hear what some of you on this site think.
Thanks Jill.
Yeah, I've read similar stories on other sites regarding the noise issues. I'm not that concerned about it though. I can't tell you how many people have commented on how clean the bathrooms are so that's good!
Hi, Jim. I stayed at the Generator 2 years ago for 3 nights. Here was my experience:
It started off bad. After walking from the tube through the streets of London to get to the Generator absolutely exhausted, I was told there was a problem with my room for one night while they fixed it (something about the pipes?), so they had booked my friend and I a room at Hotel California, which was right back where we had just come off the tube. I was not too happy. So, I insisted someone carry my luggage to the hotel. Hotel California was a typical British hotel, but clean and nice breakfast.
Brought my stuff back to Generator the next day and was able to check into room. The room was an okay size, just bunkbeds and a chair if i remember right. The hostel itself had a lot of teenagers, school trips and such. It was def. the best hostel I have stayed in. Bathrooms were kept up really well. Kids were a bit loud at night. Bar was kind of dead until later at night.
What I like the most about the hostel was the location. I LOVE bloomsbury. Walking down the street just a few blocks you will find my favorite bistro, Balfour (i think that is how it is spelled). Generator is not in the most ideal area of Bloomsbury, though. Overall, it depends on what you are looking for. For a hostel, it is a good deal, but I don't plan on staying there again.
