I am planning a few days, early June, in Northern Ireland and had family that emigrated from County Tyrone. Any experience that was helpful?

Hi Ann,

It all depends on your personal family history, but the churches, and libraries are great places to find info. Ireland is kind of unique in that churches kept (and in some cases still do) many of the records; births, marriages, deaths.

When I was in Westport, I was able to find my Great-Grandfather's signature at the local library, just using the resources they had available to anyone.

There are services you can use to help, and most TI's have information about them.

Also, if your ancestors came to the US via boat, Ancestry.com has a truly massive database. We found my grandmother on there. Hope that helps!
