We will be flying into Gatwick 07:30 a.m on a Thursday and would like to know the best way to get from Gatwick to our hotel in Regents Park. We just have backpacks and can walk distances with no problem. I've looked at National Rail and with 3 changes and 1.5 hours can be there, but not sure if that's our best option. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
You can take the Southern Line (train) from Gatwick to Victoria Station in London, it's a 30 minute ride. Then Victoria tube station is right there, take the Victoria Line to Oxford Circle tube station change to the Bakerloo Line to go to Regent's Park..it's a 17 minute ride.
As Robin said. Train to Victoria, then Tube to Regents park (first find your hotel on a detailed map to be sure thats the closest Tube station). Once you are settled in and have got rid of your luggage, busses from regents park area into Central London will be interesting. Although Tube is more efficient and easier to use
Ray - One thing to keep in mind is major escalator refurbishment is taking place at Victoria Underground station until mid January 2012. I'm not sure if this will effect your travels. You can check at www.tfl.gov.uk.
Hey, Thanks Robin for suggesting that, we probably will take the Southern, it certainly seems the most straightforward. Joel, I'll check that website out, it may be easier to get off sooner than Victoria. Brian, we will certainly take the bus now that you've suggested it; we're on vacation, so no rush at all, right? Thanks again for all your suggestions, folks.Take care!
It won't buy you anything to get off before Victoria. By the time you clear immigration, even without luggage, it will be close to 8:30 so you will be arriving after 0900, as the rush hour is dwindling down. There is still one down escalator and while it may be busy it will be way faster than if you got off at Clapham Junction. Then where would you go, anyway?
Probably get a pint. ) Thanks, I'll go to Victoria, I'm sure it will be fine.
