We fly into Gatwick at 12:40 from Venice. We need to catch a train north, beyond York. The advance fares are dramatically less if we can make a 15:30 train (12 GBP) vs 16:00 or 17:00 (110 GBP!). Can we get our bags, clear customs and make it via Gatwick Express to Victoria, tube to Kings Cross? Or wait 'til 17:30 @ 24 GBP?
Hi, I'd definatley go for the 5.30 train.Given that delays of 20 mins are common in the summer season, and the airports are heaving you will give yourself a decent buffer. And can take the cheaper bus or "normal" train rather than the Express
Hi Jerry, Do not take the Gatwick Express. Take the First Capital Connect train, it goes to London Bridge station then onto Kings Cross. Cost 10pounds.
The trip is 45 minutes. Not knowing if your plane will arrive on time, etc., I would plan on taking the 17:30 train. You can call the Uk and purchase tickets in advance and pick them up that day. Tickets are always less if you buy them in advance. Phone number 011-44-20-7278-5240
I'm with Robin. But be aware that First Capital Connect trains actually go to King's Cross Thameslink. This station is close by London King's Cross. You can walk between them in just a few minutes. The open fare is £8.90, trains run every 15 minutes, and the ride takes 46 minutes.
Play it safe and save money at the same time. Book the 17:30 train.
Thanks. I did not mention we are traveling Oct. 10, so maybe less crowded. But I think taking the later train, booked in advance, is the safer bet. I have booked advance in the past, with ticket pick-up at the station machines. Worst case, we have a couple nice "cuppas" while waiting and watching. That whole day is shot anyway, whether we get to Middlesbrough at 6 PM or 9 PM, no?
