Gatwick Customs and travel to Kings Cross

How long have people spent getting from their incoming flight at Gatwick Airport to downtown London? I will be (should be) arriving around 9 am and want to give myself enough time to get a train to Kings Cross Station for an outbound train.

My last time in London I arrived at 9:30 a.m. and was at London Bridge station by 11:30 a.m. Passport control took about 30 minutes and I only had to wait about 5 minutes for a train. There is a First Capital Connect train that departs every 15 minutes for Kings Cross, so you shouldn't have to wait long.

However, on other trips, it's taken me almost two hours just to get out of Gatwick, let alone into London. There are often delays on commuter trains, so it's always a good idea to give yourself a few hours extra.

Take a First Capital Connect train to St. Pancras Domestic (50 minutes). It's a short walk to Kings Cross from there.

I'd recommend up to four hours between your scheduled arrival at Gatwick and your scheduled departure from Kings Cross. If your plane is late or you are delayed getting through immigration/passport control, you'll appreciate the cushion.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of giving myself at least 6 hours, so it sounds like I'm on track. (pun intended)

I landed at Gatwick airport at 8:20 am, and it took almost an hour to get through passport control. It took another half hour to collect my suitcase and transfer to the South Terminal rail station. After waiting for my train, it took an additional 40 minutes, with stops, to reach Victoria Station in London.
