Gap of Dunloe

I don't see The Gap of Dunloe in Killarney mentioned in the 2013 RS Ireland book. I've seen some beautiful pictures of it on the web. Any reason to avoid this area? Thanks, Jeanne

The Gap of Dunloe is one of the most beautiful spots in County Kerry. One of the highlights of our trip was taking the "jaunting car - return by boat through the lakes" tour. We usually avoid any sort of guided tour, but this one was outstanding. Don't worry about whether or not it is in a particular guidebook! Check Rough Guides - we found it the most useful tour book on our last trip to Ireland.

Thanks Cynthia, that is helpful. I think we will add it to our itinerary. Jeanne

I highly recommend the Gap of Dunloe. We did a tour where they dropped us off at one end and we hiked to the other end. We then finished the day with a boat ride through the Lakes. I recommend hiking it. It is 15 miles I think, but a pretty easy hike and you get plenty of time. One of my best (of many) Ireland memories.
