Galway B&B dilemma

I have used Rick's guide to find lodging for a trip to Ireland in early June. Only one of the B&Bs in Galway listed in the RS Travel guide replied to my request for reservations and they did not have availability. It has been several days and I have not heard a word from the others. I'm in charge of lodging for our family group of 7 and this is the only destination without confirmation. In the experience of other travelers, is this unusual? Can anyone recommend an additional B&B?

I have not had that experience, Dorothy. This seems very early for reservations, so I would not expect places to be full, unless there is some kind of popular event when you will be there. Also, I have had good luck with B&Bs in Ireland responding to my e-mails. Is it possible they are closed for the season and will reopen in Spring. I have not been to Galway, so I don't know much about the tourist season there.

We had a wonderful stay at the Ardawn Guesthouse, just north of Eyre Square, in the city center, just last month. You've not heard back from Mike and Breda, the owners? Or have you not tried them? We loved it. So warm, welcoming, friendly. Simple but clean, nice rooms--and breakfast to die for!

We stayed at Griffin Lodge B&B last Aug. We got instant reply when booking. It is a mere 10 minute walk to The Spanish Arch and downtown shops, pubs, and restaurants. The food was good, and Ann the Hostess was the friendliest and most helpful of all we experienced in Ireland. D.

There are many B&B's in Salthill. We stayed at one and were easily able to walk into the old town area of Galway. I can't remember the name of the place we stayed, but there were many in that area.

You don't have to limit yourself to the places in Rick's book. Check Tripadvisor for reviews no matter where you choose.

I've been in touch with a B&B in Salthill (not mentioned in RS book) -- near Galway. I've exchanged several emails but NO money and I have no "official" confirmation. I've reserved all 4 rooms in the B&B for my family of 6. If we show up and we don't have rooms we're not out any cash we just won't have a place to stay. Not necessarily the best way to start a vacation! ; )

Good luck with your planning!

Hi-

We have distant cousins who own/run the LIma B&B in Galway. They were full when we visited in 2007 but recommended a nearby B&B which was very nice (Anach Cuin House- see below). I would contact either one and tell them that RAndy and Lee Ann (their Mulryan cousins from Arizona) sent you.

Stay in Lima, situated on the Tuam Road in Galway city, and you will experience the best in comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation.
This detached bungalow is adjacent to the city centre and has three rooms. These include a standard single room, a double room en suite and a double and single room en suite and each room contains a TV and tea/coffee making facilities. This centrally heated home has a garden for guest use and private car parking.
Lima B&B is the ideal base for availing of all that the city has to offer.

Good luck! Lee Ann Hamilton Tucson, AZ

For peace of mind and very little cost, why not phone the B & B direct when you have chosen one you like. I have done that on several occasions.
