Folkstone/Dover to Calais

We would like to save a little time crossing the channel. Can you take the 1/2 hour tunnel from Folkstone without having a vehicle? i.e. foot travelers? We would be turning in our rental and then getting another one in France. Thank you

Might I suggest that you return your car in Dover, get a ferry to Boulogne, and rent a car there? The ferry goes right into the town. You won't do the trip quicker.

The Folkestone-Calais route is the Shuttle and only possible if you have a vehicle. Otherwise the other next best option is Ashford-Lille, which is the Eurostar and you can board as footpassengers.

Boulogne is 30 kms south of Calais. There are no longer any sea ferries from Folkestone to France. To get to Calais or Boulogne you need to go from Dover.

It is about 342 Kms from Boulogne to Bayeux, about 3.5 hrs drive. Le Havre is a nearer French port to Bayeux, the ferry leaves from Portmouth, but the sailing takes over 6 hours as against 1hr Dover to Boulogne + 3.5 hrs Boulogne to Bayeux.

The thing about Calais is that the ferries berth a long way out of town -- a bus ride for foot passengers.
